Daycare That Changes Families, Not Just Childhood
A Safe Place for Children. A New Beginning for Families.
For a mother living in an urban slum, finding someone trustworthy to care for a young child can determine whether she is able to work, whether an older daughter can attend school, and whether the entire family has a chance to move forward.
At Vision Unlimited, our community daycare programme is designed to do much more than provide childcare.
It creates a safe, stimulating environment where young children learn, play and grow while giving families the opportunity to build more secure and hopeful futures. Our daycare centres operate from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, caring for children who are toilet trained—typically from around one year of age until they transition into formal schooling.Every child receives nurturing care, structured early learning, nutritious meals and access to basic healthcare, while parents gain the freedom to work, rest and plan for tomorrow.
Why Daycare Matters
Poverty is rarely caused by a single problem.A mother cannot work because she has nobody to care for her child. An older sister misses school because she must look after her younger sibling. The family earns less, the girl falls behind in education, and the cycle repeats itself in the next generation.Quality daycare interrupts this cycle. One intervention creates benefits for the child, the mother, the older siblings and the entire household.
What Our Daycare Programme Provides
Safe, supervised care

Children spend the day in a secure, loving environment where they are cared for by trained caregivers.
Foundational Learning (FLN)
The early years are critical for brain development.Through stories, songs, games, structured play and conversation, children develop the foundational literacy, numeracy and social skills they need before entering school.
Nutrition
Good nutrition is the foundation of healthy growth, learning, and lifelong well-being. For many children, a nutritious meal is essential not only for physical development but also for improving concentration, school attendance, and emotional health. At Vision Unlimited, every meal is carefully planned to provide approximately 500–800 calories and 8–12 grams of protein, helping bridge nutritional gaps in vulnerable children. This daily nutritional support enables children to participate actively in school and after-school activities while promoting healthy growth and resilience. By investing in nutrition, we are investing in every child’s ability to learn, thrive, and build a brighter future.
Immunisation and Health
Vision Unlimited works closely with the local Primary Health Centre (PHC) and Anganwadi workers to help ensure children receive routine immunisations and appropriate health support.Rather than replacing public healthcare systems, we strengthen families’ access to them.
Emotional Development
Children learn to share, communicate, solve problems and build confidence in a structured group setting that prepares them for school and life.
The Ripple Effect of Daycare
The greatest impact of daycare is often felt beyond the child enrolled.
Mothers Can Work
Reliable childcare allows mothers to seek employment, increase their working hours or accept jobs that were previously impossible because of caregiving responsibilities. For many women, this is the first opportunity to earn an independent income.
Mothers Can Rest
Time is one of the greatest forms of poverty.Continuous caregiving without support leads to exhaustion, stress and burnout.
Even when mothers are not working, a few uninterrupted hours during the day can improve physical health, emotional wellbeing and parenting.
Older Sisters Go Back to School

In many low-income communities, older daughters become the primary caregivers for younger siblings. When younger children attend daycare, older sisters no longer have to stay home.
They can attend school regularly, complete homework, participate in sports and simply be children again.
This may be one of the programme’s most important long-term outcomes.
Better Parenting
Reduced stress allows parents to spend more meaningful time with their children.
Families become less focused on surviving each day and more able to invest in education, health and long-term planning.
Evidence That It Works
Vision Unlimited believes programmes should be guided by evidence, not assumptions. Our research, published in the British Journal of Translational Global Health, evaluated mothers and families using our daycare programme in the urban slums of Gurugram.
The study found measurable benefits across multiple areas.

More Than Childcare
We do not see daycare as babysitting.
We see it as an investment in human potential.
Every child who learns.Every mother who earns.
Every older sister who returns to school.
Every family that begins to break free from poverty.
These are not separate successes.
They are all part of the same story.
Our Vision
We believe every child deserves a safe beginning. Every mother deserves the opportunity to work, rest and thrive. Every girl deserves to be in school rather than caring for younger siblings.
Community daycare is one of the simplest interventions capable of advancing child development, women’s economic empowerment, gender equity and educational opportunity simultaneously.
Our experience—and our published research—suggests that when implemented well, its impact extends far beyond the walls of the classroom, helping families build stronger futures across generations.
Vision Unlimited’s community daycare programme provides early learning, nutrition and healthcare while helping mothers work and keeping older siblings in school.
Help a Child Grow.
Help a Family Thrive
When you support Vision Unlimited’s Daycare Programme, you are doing far more than sponsoring childcare. You are giving a young child a safe place to learn, nutritious meals, and the foundations for lifelong development. At the same time, you are helping a mother work with dignity, allowing older siblings to attend school instead of becoming caregivers, and strengthening families for generations to come. Our own published research has shown that community-based daycare can improve maternal earnings and increase school attendance among older siblings, especially girls.
