Saath: Walking Together Towards Stronger Families
When a Mother Thrives, a Community Thrives
Every child deserves the opportunity to grow up healthy, confident, and ready to learn. Behind every thriving child is often a mother carrying the invisible weight of caregiving, household responsibilities, financial pressures, and limited access to healthcare, education, and opportunity. At Vision Unlimited, we believe that investing in mothers is one of the most effective ways to strengthen families and transform communities.
This belief inspired Saath – an integrated community programme that supports women’s health, nutrition, digital confidence, financial literacy, and community participation. Rather than addressing one challenge in isolation, Saath recognises that women’s wellbeing is shaped by many interconnected factors. By supporting women across these areas, we help families become healthier, more resilient, and better prepared for the future.
Why We Created Saath
For many women living in underserved urban communities, the greatest barrier is not a lack of ambition or determination. It is a lack of opportunity.
Mothers often spend their days balancing childcare, household responsibilities, informal work, and caring for other family members. This “time poverty” leaves little room for preventive healthcare, learning new skills, improving nutrition, or participating in community life.
These challenges rarely exist alone.
A mother who cannot access healthcare may struggle with preventable illness. Limited nutrition knowledge affects the health of the entire household.
A lack of digital confidence can prevent access to banking, government services, healthcare information, employment opportunities, and children’s education.
When these challenges come together, families become more vulnerable. When they are addressed together, families become stronger. That is the philosophy behind Saath.
Listening Before Acting
At Vision Unlimited, we believe that meaningful programmes begin by listening to the communities we serve.
Before designing Saath, we spent time understanding the everyday realities of women in our communities. Their experiences highlighted the need for practical support that went far beyond a single health camp or training workshop. The women told us they wanted better health, healthier families, greater confidence, practical life skills, and the ability to navigate an increasingly digital world.
Saath was designed in response to those voices.
Rather than offering isolated interventions, it brings together multiple areas of support into one integrated programme that helps women build healthier, more confident, and more resilient lives.
Our Five Areas of Support
1. Women’s Health and Preventive Care
Healthy families begin with healthy mothers.
Through regular health education sessions led by healthcare professionals and trained volunteers, women learn about:
- Women’s health and maternal wellbeing
- Menstrual health
- Anaemia awareness
- Breast and cervical health awareness
- Child health
- Mental wellbeing
- Stress management
- Diabetes and blood pressure awareness
- Eye health
- Preventive healthcare practices
Our goal is not only to improve knowledge, but also to encourage early care-seeking, healthier lifestyles, and long-term wellbeing.
2. Nutrition and Healthy Household Practices
Good nutrition does not always require expensive food.
Saath helps mothers make practical, affordable, and nutritious choices using locally available ingredients and familiar household foods.
Sessions focus on:
- Balanced family meals
- Affordable nutrition
- Healthy snacks
- Meal planning
- Nutrition for children
- Everyday healthy household practices
Small changes in daily habits can create lasting improvements for the whole family.

3. Digital Literacy and Digital Confidence
Digital skills are no longer optional—they are becoming essential for everyday life.
Whether accessing healthcare, applying for government schemes, making digital payments, communicating with schools, or supporting children’s education, digital confidence opens new opportunities.
Saath helps women develop practical digital skills through supportive, hands-on learning.
Topics include:
- Smartphone confidence
- WhatsApp communication
- Internet searches
- Digital safety
- Online payments
- Accessing online services
- Mobile applications
- Digital forms
- Responsible use of social media
Learning takes place in small groups at a comfortable pace, allowing every participant to build confidence through practice.
4. Community Confidence and Leadership
Empowerment is not only about knowledge.
It is also about confidence.
Many women have valuable ideas and experiences but few opportunities to share them.
Saath creates safe, welcoming spaces where women can:
- Share experiences
- Learn from one another
- Build communication skills
- Participate in discussions
- Develop leadership
- Strengthen community networks
- Connect with volunteers and professionals
As confidence grows, women become active contributors within their families and communities.
5. Financial Confidence
Financial literacy strengthens household resilience.
Saath introduces women to practical financial concepts including:
- Household budgeting
- Saving regularly
- Banking services
- Digital payments
- Financial planning
- Understanding financial products
- Making informed financial decisions
The aim is not simply to increase financial knowledge, but to help women make confident decisions that improve long-term family wellbeing.
Learning in Trusted Community Spaces
One of Saath’s greatest strengths is that it builds on relationships that already exist.
The programme is delivered through Vision Unlimited’s community network and After School Clubs, where families already feel welcomed, respected, and supported.
By bringing learning closer to where mothers already spend time, participation becomes easier and more sustainable.
Sessions are designed around women’s schedules, recognising the realities of childcare, work, and household responsibilities.
Measuring What Matters
Vision Unlimited believes that meaningful community programmes should be guided by evidence.
Saath combines regular participation tracking with structured assessments to understand how women’s confidence, knowledge, and capabilities evolve over time.
Rather than measuring attendance alone, we focus on meaningful improvements in:
- Health awareness
- Preventive healthcare practices
- Nutrition knowledge
- Digital confidence
- Community participation
- Financial capability
- Household decision-making
This continuous learning approach allows us to improve the programme while ensuring that every activity remains relevant to the needs of the women we serve.
The Ripple Effect
When a mother gains confidence, she shares it with her children.
When she learns about nutrition, the entire household benefits.
When she understands preventive healthcare, families seek care earlier.
When she becomes digitally confident, new opportunities become accessible.
When she develops leadership skills, communities become stronger.
The impact of empowering one woman rarely ends with one woman.
It spreads through families, neighbourhoods, and future generations.
What We Learned by Listening
Before launching Saath, Vision Unlimited conducted a baseline digital literacy survey involving 200 women from the communities we serve. The findings revealed a significant digital divide. While many women had access to a mobile phone, very few had experience using computers or the digital tools that have become essential for healthcare, education, financial services, employment, and government schemes. Basic activities such as internet searches, email, online safety, digital banking, document creation, and online transactions remained unfamiliar for many participants.
These findings reinforced an important lesson: providing access to technology alone is not enough. Women need practical, confidence-building support that enables them to use digital tools safely and independently. The survey directly informed the design of Saath, ensuring that every session responds to real community needs identified by the women themselves.
The baseline survey findings are presented below.
What We Learned by Listening
Before launching Saath, Vision Unlimited conducted a baseline digital literacy survey involving 200 women from the communities we serve. The findings revealed that while mobile phones are becoming increasingly common, meaningful digital confidence remains extremely limited. Many women had little or no experience using computers, accessing online services, digital banking, or essential internet tools that are increasingly required for healthcare, education, financial inclusion, and employment.
The survey also highlighted broader social and educational barriers. More than half of the participants (50.5%) had never received formal education, and only 2% had ever used a computer, with just 1% having access to one at home.
Although 65.5% owned a mobile phone, only 6.5% used UPI, 5% had ever made an online payment, and fewer than 2% could search the internet, send emails, or use applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, or PowerPoint. Awareness of online safety was equally limited, with only 1.5% able to identify online scams and **2% reporting knowledge of safe online practices.
These findings reinforced an important lesson: access to technology alone is not enough. Women need practical, confidence-building support that helps them use digital tools safely, independently, and meaningfully in their everyday lives. The survey directly informed the design of Saath, ensuring that every session responds to real community needs identified by the women themselves.
Key Baseline Findings
- 200 women participated in the survey.
- 50.5% had no formal education.
- 65.5% owned a mobile phone, but only 2% had ever used a computer.
- Only 1% had access to a computer at home.
- Fewer than 5% could perform basic internet tasks such as searching online, sending emails, or downloading applications.
- Only 6.5% used UPI, 5% had made an online payment, and 2% understood online safety.
- These findings shaped the design of Saath, with a strong focus on practical digital literacy, confidence, and everyday life skills.
